PMI Keystone Virtual Event - Hosted by Lehigh Community

Business Acumen

The life-cycle of a Project Management Office tends to begin as a necessary center for establishing the processes, tools, roles, and oversight of the organization’s project portfolio.  However, once this structure is in place, it is common for the role of the PMO to shift to a functional department where project managers report or may be viewed simply as the “process police” for conducting projects.  Research shows that in many cases PMOs have life spans only slightly longer than the time it takes to implement the project infrastructure.  This presentation will focus on the strategic value contribution of a PMO from infrastructure development to an essential element in business value delivery and competitive edge.

Come and hear Joe Sopko, PMP, MSP, P3O - an independent consultant and a joint recipient of the 2013 Shingo Prize Research Award.  Joe has had considerable involvement in organizational project management implementation, PMO development and business improvement initiatives across commercial and government markets.  He has been an active participant and core team member in the development, review and practical application of PMI, AXELOS and ISO standards including the recent PMI Standard for Organizational Project Management.  Joe has also authored several papers regarding the practical use of program management and OPM maturity models as key enablers for organizational change with a focus on organizational excellence and transformation.
