SPEAKER BIOS

Tom Sheives Dr. Tom Sheives, PhD, PMP, CSM has nearly 10 years of experience teaching project management at the graduate level and has over 30 years of experience in project management. Dr. Sheives received his Ph.D. from The University of New Mexico and BS and MS from Texas A&M University in Electrical Engineering. In addition, he received a 2nd Bachelor degree in Engineering from Baylor University.
Dr. Sheives has developed and taught core graduate level project management courses including the key core Project Management Body of Knowledge topics. He has also developed and taught graduate level courses in agile project management, requirements development, team development, and leadership.. He has also been an international speaker at project management conferences on topics in project management and on his book published in 2009 Opportunity Unstuck.
In the corporate world, Dr. Sheives has managed information technology projects using waterfall and Scrum. Just prior to HU,  he worked in the DC area in the IT industry providing to clients Microsoft implementations of CRM and SharePoint 2013.  Previous to that while relocating to the DC area, he worked at the Department of Veterans affairs in DC in a project management contractor. He has helped establish PMOs at Texas Instruments and USAA and has helped other organizations improve their project management and business requirements processes.
Dr. Sheives is currently the Program Director for the M.S. in Project Management degree program and Associate Professor at Harrisburg University. He is also the Founding Director of the Agile Lean Center at Harrisburg University.  He has a passion for engaging students in learning and advancing their careers. His research interests span the agile and lean technology areas.

 

Scott RaineyScott A. Rainey, MA, MPA is a veteran of the U.S. Army having retired on July 31, 2013 as Lieutenant Colonel with over 26 years of service. His terminal Army assignment was serving as Director, Human Resources at the U.S. Army War College at Carlisle Barracks. Mr. Rainey's military service included a variety of command and staff assignments at military installations across the United States and around the world, including tours in Germany, Korea and Iraq.
Upon retirement, Mr. Rainey was nominated to the State Civil Service Commission by Governor Tom Corbett and confirmed by the Pennsylvania State Senate on June 30, 2013. Governor Corbett appointed Commissioner Rainey to serve as Chairman of the Commission effective this date and he remained in this capacity until July 12, 2015. Mr. Rainey serves as the Commonwealth's statutorily required civil service commission veteran member.
Following his term with the Pennsylvania Civil Service Commission, Mr. Rainey served nearly three years as Director, Total Force for Naval Supply Systems Command at NSA Mechanicsburg.  Mr. Rainey served as a Corporate Faculty member at Harrisburg University for over three years, teaching graduate level courses in Organizational Leadership and Business Communications.  In January 2019, Mr. Rainey became a full time Lecturer in Leadership and Communications at Harrisburg University. 
Mr. Rainey is a native of Troy, Alabama. He is a 1987 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point where he earned a Bachelor's degree in International Relations. His education also includes a Master's degree in Public Administration from Webster University (1999) and a Master's degree in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College (2009). events per year.

Alyssa Beckwith Alyssa Beckwith, PMP    graduated from Lehigh University with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and George Washington University with an M.S. in Project Management.

Alan Alan Koch, PMP, CSM, MS Management Science began his formal education at Edinboro State College where he earned a B.S. in Mathematics with a concentration in Computer Science. He then went on to earn a Master of Science in Management Science with a concentration in Business Administration from the University of Dayton. Since then, Alan has spent more than 40 years in the information technology field with a strong primary focus on software development and software quality.

Alan spent a good deal of his career with the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). He was there for 13 years and in that time became familiar with the Capability Maturity Model (CMM) and worked on the Personal Software Process & Team Software Process (PSP/TSP) project. Since then, he has provided consulting service and trained professionals for over 20 years.  In the process, Alan has logged 14 years designing, developing and maintaining software, over two decades in Quality Assurance, including establishing & managing a QA department, and nearly two decades in each of Process Improvement, Project Management and IT Service Management.

Alan is a speaker and writer on effective Project Management, software development, IT operations, and public speaking methods. He holds these certifications: Project Management Professional (PMP), PMI Agile Certified Professional (PMI-ACP), Certified Scrum Master (CSM), ICAgile Certified Professional in Agile Testing (ICP-TST), Foundations of DevOps (ICP-FDO) and Implementing DevOps (ICP-IDO), DevOps Foundation (DevOps Institute), Certified ITIL Expert, COBIT 5 Foundation, and a Certified Toast Master (CTM).

Mitch GoldsteinMitch Goldstein is a Senior Agile Program and Technical Coach with Accenture | SolutionsIQ, Mitch has more than thirty-five years of experience in the software development industry, working with Agile principles and teams since they came into common use. A pioneer of object-oriented development, enterprise platforming, and Java user interface development, he has spent years honing his craft as a consultant for investment, accounting, insurance, and healthcare organizations. A published author and technical journalist, Mitch has transitioned from architecture and development to Agile coaching, focusing on creating high-performing teams and transitioning enterprise organizations using Business Agility principles and scaling methodologies. Mitch lives just east of Pittsburgh, where he and the city have happily adopted each other.

Myles Miller Bio 2019 Myles Miller, PhD Multi-national CEO, Top 360 Entrepreneur in the USA 2018 (#57), two-time Best Selling Author and Radio Host of “Myles of SUCCESS”, Myles Miller is the CEO and Founder of LEADUP, LearningBreaks and SUCCESSHQ, international training and success development companies spanning 6 continents and employing 500 plus contractors operating in over 100 countries around the globe.
Myles has over 30 years’ experience in the project management field, across multiple industries including retail, defense, state and federal government, international countries and hospitality. During his varied career, he has led projects and programs impacting the United States and countries abroad ranging in budgetary size from $100K to $500B and leading teams of over 10,000 members.

Myles has a BS in Business Management from Penn State University and an MBA from La Salle University in International Business Management and recently acquired his PhD from Baylor University.

 

 

Jim Taylor Jim Taylor, PMP, PMI-ACP has worked in software development for a long time. He began his professional life as a mainframe developer.  After being the victim of poor project management, he decided to give it a try. He found that even implementing a couple of practices - risk management and communication planning, resulted in significant improvements. A great mentor introduced him to PMI®, project management methodology and RAD and from there he became a serial experimenter with new methodologies. He has worked in SLC, RAD, XP, Scrumban, and Scrum and has read up a bit on Lean, Kanban, Dev Ops, and Crystal. Currently the teams he manages are using scrum.

 

 

 

 

 

slarmore Scott Larmore was a Global Program Executive for one of the largest technology companies in the world. He has directed multi-million-dollar complex projects and programs, including for California, Kentucky, South Carolina, and the City of New York implementing the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission for the NYPD and FDNY. Earlier in his career, Scott led projects and programs in the telecom industry, including customers such as Wal-Mart, Pacific Bell, Southern New England Telephone, and T-Mobile. He also co-designed NASA's Virtual Learning Community for their Systems Engineering Leadership Development Program, NASA's next generation of leaders.
Scott completed a specialized study in public-private partnerships at Hautes Études Commerciales (HEC) and École Nationale d'Administration (ENA) in Paris, France, and executive education at University of Notre Dame and Villanova University. He is an active member of the University of Pennsylvania's Virtual Collaboration Design Lab, the Project Management Institute, the Academy of Management,  The British Academy of Management, and the Oxford Union Society.
He earned a BBA from National University; MBA from the University of Liverpool, UK; MS in Organizational Dynamics from the University of Pennsylvania; and Advanced Management and Leadership Program from the University of Oxford where he is currently a DPhil candidate at Kellogg College.

During Ms. Smith’s career, she managed the startup of four contact centers for three organizations. Joe Joe Sopko, PMP, MSP, P3O is an independent organizational project management improvement consultant and a joint recipient of the 2013 Shingo Prize Research Award as a contributing author to The Guide to Lean Enablers for Managing Engineering Programs.

For the past twelve years, Joe has had considerable involvement in organizational project management maturity, PMO development, program management and business improvement initiatives.  He has been an active participant and core team member in the development, review and practical application of PMI’s OPM3® Standard, AXELOS Managing Successful Programmes (MSP), PMI Standard for Organizational Project Management and is a former member of the ISO US Technical Advisory Group for Project, Programme and Portfolio Standards (ISO/TC258).  Joe has also authored several papers regarding the practical use of program management and multiple maturity model approaches as an enablers for PMO development, value delivery and in improving/achieving organizational project business excellence. 

 

 

 

Alice Conner Malyszek1 Alice Conner Malyszek has an extensive background in manufacturing operations and operational excellence. Her experience includes leading multi-site manufacturing and support engineering organizations, including quality for one of the largest defense firms in the United States. Throughout her career, Mrs. Malyszek focused on integrating processes for velocity, agility and continuous improvement. Her success in working with organizations comes from her deep experience in strategy development, lean transformation, organizational development and leadership. Alice has developed and executed manufacturing strategies in support of competitive program capture plans and growth objectives. Her production teams have been recognized for their novel approaches to applying advanced manufacturing technologies. She has coached executive teams in policy deployment and worked with the shop floor on facilitating kaizen events. She now brings this experience to Go-Lean-Six Training and Consulting and their clients.

Alice holds a BS and Associates Degree in Mechanical Engineering as well as advanced coursework in statistics and reliability from Penn State University. She is an alumnus of the International Woman’s Fellows Program for Leadership and holds certifications from Gemba Research and the University of Michigan in Lean and Six Sigma. She is an advocate and volunteer for Science, Technology and Mathematics and Arts (STEMA).
