Title: A Tale of Two Leaders: Lessons in Leadership from the Iraqi Army.
Description: Brief Description: In 2009 Ed Beck, then a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserve, deployed to Iraq to advise the Iraqi Army. A senior Army officer and doctoral student in organizational leadership, he felt totally prepared to coach and mentor his Iraqi counterpart. Little did he know that he would be receiving a lesson in leadership.
Our Presenter: Ed Beck
Ed Beck has had an interesting and varied career that has included emergency medical technician and firefighter, corporate quality manager, advisor to the Iraqi Army, and Chief Operating Officer for six long-term care facilities for veterans. One thing each of those positions has had in common is the need to identify, manage, and on occasion take, risks. As the COO for the Veterans’ Homes, he oversees the risk management and project management functions of the organization.
Ed holds a bachelor’s of Science degree in Communications and Secondary Education from Millersville University, a Masters of Arts in Defense Program and Acquisition Management from American Military University, and an Ed. D. (ABD) in Organizational Leadership from Northcentral University.
