Mr. Piper retired from the US Secret Service after a 20-year career having served as manager of Forensic Sciences Division and Technical Security Division.  Mr. Piper was responsible for security engineering and risk management at the White House and Treasury Department complexes, and other related facilities.  Mr. Piper was Chairman of the White House Information Systems Security Advisory Group for 6 years and implemented CIA and NSA trusted system criteria.  Mr. Piper then went on to Vice President, Special Projects Sector, for Scientech Engineering and was primarily engaged in technical security projects for US DOE, NRC and DOT.  Mr. Piper then served 13 years as manager of global security engineering and risk management for ExxonMobil and, since 2007 is Principal of Bearing LLC, based in Virginia.

While at ExxonMobil, Mr. Piper developed risk management and security engineering best practices.  He implemented these through the conduct of over 450 risk assessments, in over 40 countries, in virtually all aspects of oil/gas/chemical operations.  Mr. Piper sat on a DHS advisory panel with regard to petrol-chemical sector security and was a member of the ExxonMobil Information Systems Security Committee for 12 years.

Mr. Piper has been contracted for over seven years as one of the cyber security managers for the U.S. DOE nuclear spent fuel programs.  Mr. Piper also drafted best practices for NERC and FERC electric power security and resilience requirements. 

Since 2007, Mr. Piper has conducted technical security and risk assessment projects for an array of global clients in over 30 countries.  Projects included cyber, electric power (including nuclear), petroleum, chemical, nuclear, and manufacturing.  Clients include:

MARS (125 projects in seven years),Yankee Atomic, Conoco-Phillips, Chevron, Litigation Support, Sinclair Oil, Hunt Oil, API, ASERO, AcuTech, Raytheon, Talisman, CACI, Reliance Industries (India), Cummins Engines, Delta Airlines, NRC, Dubai Energy and Water Authority (DEWA), UAE Critical National Infrastructure (CNI),  American Energy Systems (AES), Norilsk Nickel (Russia), Johnson Controls, Leidos, Entergy, Southern California Edison, Security Executive Council, and Foreign Policy Research Institute.     

Mr. Piper possesses a Master of Science in Organizational Dynamics from the University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Piper also served as an adjunct faculty member in Forensic Science and Engineering at George Washington University for 12 years.  Mr. Piper has attended over 40 specialized training sessions, mostly in technical and information security, and, is currently enrolled as a postgraduate at George Mason University.

From 1971-2015, Mr. Piper possessed an active TOP SECRET/SCI security clearance.
