PMI Keystone Chapter – In-Person Monthly Event - October 2023 - York Managed
Where: York College of Pennsylvania - 441 Country Club Road, York, PA 17403 (Willman Business Center, Classroom 403)
Topic: Project Optimization and Recovery using Critical Path Drag
Talent Triangle: 1 PDU - Business Acumen
Description: In the 1990’s, Steve Devaux published an article that took the traditional aspects of Critical Path Management and project control techniques such as Earned Value Management to a new level by defining a methodology he called Total Project Control. One concept he introduced was Critical Path Drag. While float (or slack) tells us how late a non-critical path activity can be delayed before it becomes critical, drag tells us how much time a critical path activity is contributing to the project finish date. With multiple parallel work streams, this can be very important and there are tools today that calculate drag. Together with the quantification of the value impacts of early/late project completion, critical path drag is an essential metric for enabling project optimization and recovery as well as program benefits realization management.
