Susquehanna Branch: September 2019 Meeting

The PMI Keystone Chapter wants to connect with PMI members, Project Managers and the project management professional community to drive the field of project management forward in the Harrisburg area.

We hope you will join us at our regular monthly meetings to learn how you can expand your network and collaborate with us to create and share consumable content, tools and resources.

The feature presentation will be as follows:

Topic: "Anatomy of a Census: Ensuring a Complete Count in 2020"

The U.S. Census, mandated by the Constitution, has been conducted every 10 years since 1790.  There will be far-reaching implications if Pennsylvania’s population is undercounted. If the data captured by the 2020 Census does not include all PA residents, the commonwealth could lose seats in Congress, receive billions of dollars less in federal funds for critical services and programs, and the resulting data used by the public and private sector could be impacted.

This presentation will discuss the players, planning, and complexities involved in ensuring project success...in this case, orchestrating a smooth, complete, and accurate Pennsylvania census.

Speaker: Norman Bristol Colón, Executive Director, Governor’s 2020 Census Complete Count Commission

Norman Bristol Colón was appointed by Governor Tom Wolf to serve as Executive Director of the Governor’s 2020 Census Complete Count Commission and joined the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development in February 2019.  Most recently, Bristol Colón served as Director of Special Projects for the Pennsylvania Department of State and Special Assistant to the Secretary of the Commonwealth.  In this capacity, he served as state liaison to the National Association of Secretaries of State and was responsible for the state execution of the National Association of Secretaries of State Conference in Philadelphia on July 2018.  He was overseeing the state’s coordinated response to hurricane Maria displaced families in Pennsylvania.

Previously, he was appointed by Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell to serve as Executive Director of the Governor’s Advisory Commission on Latino Affairs.  He was the youngest appointed and longest-serving executive director in GACLA’s history, serving under two governors – Governor Edward G. Rendell and Governor Tom Corbett.  A native of Puerto Rico, Mr. Bristol Colon resides in Lancaster where he is an active member of the community serving on numerous boards and committees.  He is a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University and is a proud member of the Penn State Alumni Association.
