TOPIC: Taking the Right Risks in Product Development Projects
DESCRIPTION: Most New Product Development (NPD) projects, like many other strategic investments, require taking significant risks to succeed. Yet, most risk management standards focus almost entirely on avoidance or mitigation, overlooking the importance of deliberate risk-taking. At the same time, many established organizations shift toward protecting “guaranteed rewards,” often guided by a mindset where “failure is not an option.” This creates the perfect opportunity for bold competitors to disrupt the market, precisely because they took the risks others tried to avoid.
This presentation outlines the key building blocks of a healthy risk culture that supports smart, strategic risk-taking that is crucial for gaining and sustaining competitive advantage.
