Building a PMO (Key Lessons Learned)!

Topic                     :    Lehigh Valley PMI Meeting - Building a PMO (Key Lessons learned)

Presentation Description

Building a PMO can be challenging when the organizational culture is bitter towards Project Management based on previous experiences. There were many obstacles to overcome to win the hearts and minds of the organization in 6 years where the PMO is now a trusted partner in the development and participation of the overall business strategy.

This presentation will focus on the art, science and lessons learned from the vision (proposal provided to the CIO) of building a PMO from scratch using Gartner’s maturity roadmap: Level 1 (Reactive) to Level 5 (Effective Innovation).  The journey of this PMO started in 2014, but the experience from building PMO's at other companies helped me to be prepared for this opportunity.

Participants will learn the overall journey including:

  • Techniques used create and leverage influence with senior executives on the value that a PMO brings to the organization
  • Organizing for Success: How to build and lead a culture of high-powered team members that are well respected in the organization.
  • Recommended Key competencies to include in the PMO
  • What's next in building great PMO's - suggestions on what to do and what not to do.
